2nd Grade

Welcome to Mrs. Fink’s 2nd Grade

Dear Parents and students:

Welcome to second grade! This is going to be an exciting year full of new experiences. Your child will be learning new responsibilities and become more independent learners. We will start the year off  with researching dinosaurs, move into a study of Pilgrims, follow that with a unit on biographies, a study on owls, and end with a fairy tale unit. It should be great fun!!

P.E.

Our P.E. days will be Monday this year.  Please make sure your child is dressed in the appropriate athletic shoes. It is also recommended that the girls try not to wear dress. on these days.

Students are invited to bring water bottles to keep themselves hydrated.

Homework:

Homework is sent home Monday thru Thursday. The homework is an opportunity  for your  child to practice what we learned in class that day, as well as a window to you on how well your child comprehends the day’s lessons. Please review their work with them on a daily basis.

Volunteers:

Volunteers are welcome any time. Please let me know the day and time you would like to come and I will try to have something prepared for you.

Supplies:

I am asking that each child have the following supplies:

•  Backpack

•  Pencils

•  Homework folder

•  Clip board

•  Scissors

Classroom rules:

•  Come to school everyday, prepared to learn.

•  Be respectful to others.

•  Follow directions.

Children will earn team points by demonstrating on-task behavior and making appropriate choices. They will earn constant praise and appreciation for a job and/or effort that fits the task.

If a child consistently makes bad choices or remains off-task they could lose a privilege for the day.

Accelerated Reader:

A.R. is new to many second graders. Each child is assigned an individual goal.  At any time you may check your child's points online. Each child is expected to reach their goal at the end of each trimester.

If you have any questions or concerns I would love to meet with you and work on a plan together, that will make your child’s learning experience a complete success.

Thank you,

Rita Fink
