Middle Years

    Dwight decided to go the University of Michigan.  But his friend Everett Hackett convinced him otherwise.  So he ended up in the college of West Point in 1910.  Later, Dwight entered the military academy in 1911.  Though his mother did not like the idea of violence and war. He excelled in football.  Which ended with a knee injury.  He graduated West Point in 1915.  Dwight got assigned as second lieutenant to Fort Sam  Houston. 

    Later met the daughter of a successful meat packer, an 18 year-old, Mary Doud. She is sometimes called Mamie. They got married in July 1916. They had two sons.  The first is named Doud  in 1917.  The second is John in 1922.  Unfortunately Doud died at the age of four from scarlet fever.  Then the United States entered World War I.  So Dwight entered too but he never got the chance to fight. He got to serve many different military posts. While working under Brigadier General Fox Conner. Dwight developed friendship with this commander
