Death/After

This a Picture of Eisenhower's funeral.

After world war two Eisenhower was questioned about being president. In 1952 he declared himself a republican. Soon after this he ran for the office of presidency. He chose California senator Richard Nixon as his running mate. While running for president he projected a confident side to post-world war two societies, and with the slogan “I like Ike” Eisenhower soon became the thirty-fourth president of the United States.

Soon after taking the oath of office, Eisenhower Went to Korea where he spent three days looking at the fighting conditions. After those three days Eisenhower made a peace treaty that ended the war in Korea.

After the war in Korea the Geneva accords prohibited anyone from interfering With Vietnam. This was because there would be an election in two years that would bring that nation into Communism. During this time the U.S. was paying for The French who were fighting to hold onto their part of Vietnam. But the French started to lose their ground so the U.S. started to replace the French in fighting the guerrillas. This sabotaged the agreement. Ike then sponsored a treaty with several different Asian countries.

With the spreading communism Ike made the Eisenhower doctrine. After making this he started to send adviser to South Vietnam. This soon started the Vietnam War.

In 1957 Eisenhower suffered a stroke and later told that he reversed syllables in long words and was sometimes compelled to speak slowly. He also never recovered from the incident. After his presidency Eisenhower returned to Gettysburg Pennsylvania where he advised with president’s advisors to seek victory in Vietnam.

On March 24, 1969 His heart began to fail. Four days later On March 28, 1969 he died.

During his lifetime Ike was an extraordinary man who started out an average man, but became famous throughout the world for is actions. From the success of D-day to the Eisenhower Doctrine, a defense treaty that would protect and give military supplies to Middle Eastern countries who asked for aid.  Eisenhower was a man who fought for freedom around the world.
